A total of 501 luxury EVs were sold in FY2023 and the top three bestselling EVs were the Mercedes EQC (235), Audi e-tron (124) and BMW iX (89), as per JATO Dynamics India’s sales data. With a dozen more luxury EV launches expected this year, here is a list of the most expensive EVs in India currently.

Demand for luxury EVs

Mercedes-Benz, the leading luxury car brand in India, has the most expensive EV, the EQS sedan. It comes in two variants – EQS 580 and AMG EQS 53. The first one generates 523 PS of power and 855 Nm torque to give an ARAI-stated range of 857 km. Whereas the AMG version produces 658 PS of power and 950NM torque to give a WLTP-claimed range of 586. Both cars share the same 107.8kWh battery. Mercedes-Benz EQS price ranges from Rs 1.55 crore to Rs 2.45 crore.

Sports car brand Porsche comes in second with an EV version of its popular Taycan. The Taycan EV also has two models – Cross Turismo and Saloon. Both models claim the same 400 km range but with different battery sizes. The lower model has a 79.2 kWh battery while the upper version gets a 93.4 kWh battery. Porsche Taycan EV price varies from Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2.31 crore.

BMW rounds up the top 3 with its i7 luxurious EV sedan offering. This majestic vehicle of the German auto giant runs on a 101.7 kWh battery pack producing 544 PS of power and 745 Nm torque. BMW claims a WLTP-approved range of 625 km for its electric sedan. The luxurious BMW i7 retails at Rs 1.95 crore.

Considered to be the best EV in the industry, Audi’s e-tron GT comes at fourth in the most expensive list. The car has two variants – e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT. The ordinary e-tron GT produces 522 PS of horsepower by its 83.7 kWh battery. The RS version has the same battery but it produces 637 PS of power due to an electrified version of Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Both cars have a WLTP-approved range of 472 km. The price of Audi e-tron GT is Rs 1.7 crore while the RS version is priced at Rs 1.94 crore.

Tata Group owned Jaguar comes in fifth place with its electric SUV Jaguar I-Pace. The British automaker’s EV runs on a 90 kWh battery producing 394bhp of power and 696 Nm torque. The I-Pace SUV has a WLTP-approved range of 470kms. The price of Jaguar I-Pace varies from Rs 1.20 crore to Rs 1.24 crore.

Another expensive EV option from BMW is their electric SUV iX. The car has only one variant with 76.6 kWh battery producing 322bhp of power and 630 Nm torque. BMW claims a range of 425 km for its electric SUV. The price of BMW iX SUV is Rs 1.16 crore.

BMW offers another luxurious sedan to its customers in the form of i4. This electric sedan runs on a 83.9 kWh battery pack giving an output of 340PS of power and 430 Nm torque. BMW claims a WLTP-approved range of 590 km for its electric sedan. The price of BMW i4 is Rs 69.90 lakh.
