The Indian market is replete with electric vehicles as Indian customers start looking to the future where fossil fuels will nearly cease to exist. Here is a list of most affordable electric cars available in the Indian market to help you go green.

Most Affordable EVs

The Chinese automaker Morris Garages launched their entry level EV earlier last year, named ‘Comet’. It comes with a 17.3 kWh battery, which gives an ARAI-tested range of 230 kms on a single charge. The motor produces an output of 41.4 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. MG’s Comet EV is the most affordable electric car in India at the price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors have become the uncrowned king of EVs with their vast EV portfolio. The most popular is their entry level electric hatchback, Tiago EV. It is powered by either a 19.2 kWh battery or a 24 kWh battery. While the former has a range of 250 kms the latter provides a range of 315 kms in a single charge. The price of Tiago EV starts at Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom).

Next in the line of affordable EVs is the eC3 from French carmaker, Citroen. Powered by 29.2 kWh battery, this car has an ARAI-tested range of 320kms in a single charge. The battery gives an output of 57 PS of power and 143 Nm of torque. Citroen has priced its eC3 EV at Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The second most popular car from Tata’s EV stable is their entry-level electric sedan, Tigor EV. The car runs on a 26 kWh battery giving an output of 75 PS and 170 Nm of torque. The electric sedan has an ARAI-tested range of 315 kms and its price starts at Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

One of the most selling EVs in India is the Tata Nexon EV with its high ground clearance of 205mm. The electric SUV comes in two variants – Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max. While the former runs on a 30.2 kWh battery, the latter gets a much bigger 40.5 kWh battery. The range for Nexon EV Prime is 312 kms while the range of Nexon EV Max is 437 kms. Tata starts the price of its Nexon EV at Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).

The biggest SUV maker in the market also offers an electric SUV in the form of XUV 400. With a 39.4 kWh battery the motor gives an output of 150 PS and 310 Nm of torque. The car comes with an ARAI-tested range of 456 kms and its price starts at Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom).

The second EV of Morris Garages in the market is the MG ZS EV with a massive 50.3 kWh battery pack. The motor produces an output of 174 PS of power and 281 Nm of torque helping the car reach a top speed of 140 kmph. The ZS EV gets an ARAI-tested range of 461 kms and its price starts at Rs 23.38 lakh.

Korean automaker Hyundai also launched its Kona electric compact SUV in 2019. It is powered by a 39.2 kWh battery giving an output of 136 PS power and 395 Nm of torque. The SUV comes with an ARAI-tested range of 452kms. The price of Kona Electric starts at Rs 23.84 lakh (ex-showroom).
